Trains to and from Milan Malpensa Airport (MXP)

Milan Malpensa Airport has a railway station at Terminal 1. The Malpensa Express (Ferrovie Nord Milano Trains) is a quick and easy way for traveling to Milan’s city center. The older, regular Italian trains of Trenitalia travel to Milan from the Gallarate Station. This station can be reached by shuttle bus from the airport.

The Malpensa Express

The Malpensa Express travels to Cadorna Railway Station in the center of Milan, near to Duomo Square. The train takes about 40 minutes to reach the Cadorna Station, and trains depart form the airport every 30 minutes. The journey is slightly faster with the non-stop services that operate early in the mornings and late at night. Trains depart at 23 and 53 minutes past the hour, every day of the week.

Cadorna Railway Station is the connection with the Subway red (M1) and green (M2) lines, the Suburban and the Regional Railway service. The Malpensa Express makes stops at Milano Bovisa, Saronno Centrale and Busto Arsizio FNM.

Malpensa Airport has staffed ticket kiosks and automated ticket vending machines where the Malpensa Express train tickets can be purchased. On weekdays, the kiosks are open between the hours of 05:30 and 00:20. On weekends and public holidays their open hours are shorter. You will find the automated ticket machine just before walking down the ramp to the train station. Your train ticket must be validated before getting onto the train.

More information on the Malpensa Express can be found at www.malpensaexpress.it. The website is available in English and Italian.

Italian Trenitalia Trains

The Trenitalia Trains can be used by taking the bus service from the airport to the Gallarate Railway Station. The buses depart from Terminal 1 and Terminal 2, between the hours of 06:05 and 20:15. If you need to get between the two airport terminals, there is a free shuttle bus that runs every 15 minutes. It is only a short bus trip to Gallarate Station.

From Gallarate Station, the Domodssola-Milano train line leads in the direction of Milano Centrale. Some of the trains run directly to Centrale, while others require a train change. A direct trip will take around 40 minutes, and a trip that requires a different train, will take just over an hour. Trains depart from Gallarate between the hours of 05:54 and 23:24.

Getting to the airport by Train

The same trains can be used to get to Malpensa Airport. The Malpensa Express departs from Milan Cadorna Station every 30 minutes. The first train leaves the station at 05:50 and the last at 20:20.

The Italian Trenitalia Trains travel to the airport from Milan Central and Milan Garibaldi. These trains run to Gallarate Station. From here, passengers should take the bus to the terminal. The trains from Milan Central depart between the hours of 07:30 and 21:30, and from Garibaldi from 05:05 to 22:25. Take note that the bus to Malpensa from Gallarate Station only runs from 06:05 to 20:15.

Using the train service is an economical way to travel. The fares range between 3 and 11 Euros for a one-way trip.
