Buses to and from Genova Airport (GOA)

Genoa has an international airport, also known as Genoa Cristoforo Colombo Airport, which is only 6 km, or 4 miles away. It is situated on a man-made peninsula, and serves as a major gateway to Italy’s north-western Liguria region. Besides Genoa, the airport is in close proximity to Rapallo, Savona, Pegli, Arenzano, Voltri and Varazze. Passengers of Genoa Airport can choose between a variety of transportation options, including a few excellent bus services.

The airport consists of a single, multi-level terminal building, which has the arrivals area on the ground floor and the departures area on the first floor. The second floor of the terminal building houses various passenger facilities, and the third floor is for airport administration. All the bus services can be found outside the arrivals area of the terminal. The main public bus service in operation is the AMT Genova Volabus, and recently there was the introduction of a new option, the new Shuttle Service I24, and there is also the Rapid bus link available directly from the airport.

The Volabus is an AMT shuttle bus which travels between the airport and the train stations of Principe and Brignole, which are the main railway stations in Genoa. The bus also connects the airport to the city center of Genoa. Starting from the airport terminal, the Volabus will make stops at Via Cornigliano/Stazione FS, Via Pacinotti/Fiumara, Piazza Acquaverda (Principe FS – train station), De Ferrari/Centro Città, and lastly the Brignole FS (train station). Passengers are only allowed to be dropped off at these locations. One cannot get on the Volabus at these stops.

The AMT Volabus is available 7 days a week, and travels approximately every 40 to 60 minutes from Genoa Airport. The first bus leaves the terminal at 06:00, and the last bus is at midnight. Bus tickets cost €6.00, which includes a 60 minute journey on the AMT network (buses, metro, public elevators and funicular railways) in the same day. The bus tickets can be purchased from various locations. If you are arriving at the airport, perhaps the most convenient will be to buy them at one of the AMT automated ticket machines, or at Local Tourist Promotion Board. Tickets can also be purchased onboard the shuttle bus. The Volabus takes approximately 30 minutes to reach Brignole Train Station.

Similar to the above mentioned information, the AMT Volabus provides transport from Brignole Station and Principe Station to Genoa Airport. Starting from Brignole FS, the bus will stop at De Ferrari/Centro Città, Piazza Acquaverde (Principe FS – train station), Via Pacinotti/Fiumara, Via Cornigliano/Stazione FS, and lastly at Genoa Airport. Buses traveling in this direction will only pick passengers up at these locations. The first bus departs at 05:20, and the last bus leaves Brignole Station at 23:20. The Volabuses are available approximately every 40 minutes. Bus tickets for this service can be purchased from automatic AMT points at the railway stations, at some authorized retail shops nearby bus stops and bus terminals, or from the Genoa Tourist Information Offices in De Ferrarisquare (Carrlo Felice Theater) and Garibaldi Street (in front of the city hall). AMT offices sell bus tickets as well, and they are located at Via D’Annunzio 8R (city center), Via Avio 9R (Sampierdarena) and Via Bobbio 250R (Marassi). They are usually open from Monday to Friday, between 08:15 and 15:45. Alternatively, bus tickets can also be purchased online, at www.amt.genova.it.

Recently, a new bus service was introduced to provide transport from Genoa Airport to the Sestri Ponente district, its railway station and the new Marina Genoa Airport. Buses are available to these areas approximately every 30 minutes, and the first bus leaves from the airport at 06:15. The last bus leaves at 19:13. The new Shuttle Service I24 travels from Marinato the airport as well, with the first bus leaving at 06:35, and the last bus departure at 19:40. Buses are available approximately every 30 to 40 minutes from this location.

Passengers at Genoa Airport who would like to continue their journey by train can use the services of the Rapid bus links, which travel directly to the two main railway stations in Genoa (Principe and Brignole). They also travel from the railway stations to the airport, and are available approximately every hour.

The public Genoa buses are very comfortable and have large luggage vans. The coaches are fully equipped, providing the comfort that you experienced on the airplane. More details are available from the airport information desks, or from the Tourist Reception Desk, which is open from Monday to Friday, between the hours of 09:00 and 13:00, and again from 13:30 to 17:30.
