Palermo Airport Departures (PMO)
Punta Raisi Airport is situated approximately 32 km (20 miles) from Sicily’s capital city Palermo. It is an international airport with a modern, single terminal building. All arrivals and departures are handled by this terminal. Many large and small airline companies operate flights to and from Punta Raisi Airport. Some of the airlines available are Alitalia, Ryanair, Easyjet, Wind Jet, Lufthansa, Meridiana, Air Malta, Air Berlin, Air Italy and Transvania.
Within the airport, there is a wide variety of shopping options (including shops that offer duty free products), as well as many enticing bars, cafés and restaurants. Banking facilities are available at the Banca Nuova in the departures area, and by various cash machines situated throughout the airport. There is also a Bureau de Change in Check-In Area A. Passengers will also find postal services, a pharmacy and medical services.
Punta Raisi Airport has two VIP lounges – the Gesap VIP Lounge and the VIP Lounge “Verga” Alitalia. A free break at the self service restaurant in the Gesap VIP Lounge is available, as well as satellite TV, national newspapers, and information regarding flight schedules. Business meetings can also be arranged at the Gesap Lounge.
Persons who may require special assistance before their departure or during their flight should contact their airline to make arrangements at least 48 hours before their departure. The airline will then notify the airport of their special requirements. When arriving at the airport, passengers with reduced mobility can go directly to the special assistance lounge of Sala Amica. This lounge is in the Departure Hall on the first floor of the terminal. Assistance is also available within the airport to help passengers climb stairs or walk long distances, as well as for those who are in wheelchairs or stretchers, or who are visually, hearing or intellectually impaired. Special parking facilities are available in all the parking areas for disabled passengers.
For passenger security, new rules now restrict the amount of liquids that you are allowed to carry in your luggage, although this only applies to hand luggage. Your hand luggage will be checked for liquids as well as for the other usual prohibited items. Passengers can however buy as many liquid items as they wish from the shops that are beyond the point where the boarding passes are checked. Passengers may also carry with them liquid items that are necessary for use during the flight, such as baby food or medicines. Proof that these items are needed may be required, therefore it is useful to have your doctor’s prescription within easy reach. You may also be asked to taste your baby’s food to ensure its authenticity.
Passengers departing from Punta Raisi Airport should ensure that they have all the necessary travel documents required for their flight. Travel documents include your flight ticket and boarding cards, as well as a valid form of identity. The type of identity document might depend upon the country to which you are flying. Ensure that all your documents are correct and valid (not expired). Passengers are required to arrive at the airport in good time. Sufficient time is needed to find parking, check in luggage, and complete all the necessary security control procedures.
Pets (small animals) are allowed to be transported on flights from Punta Raisi Airport. They are accepted as registered luggage, and are loaded in the hold. It is best to find out the exact regulations from your airline, as some airlines even allow the transportation of animals in the cabin. In the case of cabin transport, the animal and its container and food must not exceed 10 kg, and the animal may not leave the container during the flight. Guide dogs have different rules however, as they may travel in the cabin, and their transport is free of charge.
Passengers can make use of the baggage wrapping services (Fly Safe Bags) available in the departure hall. There is also an information desk on the first floor of the terminal (near the Gesap Ticket Office) for all other enquiries.
